Chloe nodded dazedly. After washing up, she changed into a proper little dress and followed Kelly out the door.
The more Kelly looked at her, the more she liked her “The moment I saw you online, I just knew you had that spark! If today the big–time director takes a liking to you, I’ll take you to the indoor play zone!”
Chloe’s eyes lit up. “Really?”
Kelly nodded. “Of course it’s real! Would I lie to you? But listen, we might be late; the notice came in late, so they’re waiting a Intle while just for us. That means you’ve really got to do your best once you’re in there, okay?”
Chloe got even litore excited and rushed to

finish up–quick and efficient!
Inside the audition hall, a delicate little girl stepped out. She looked to be about six, hair styled into a tidy bun, chin lifted like a proud little peacock.
Standing next to her was an equally elegant woman–clearly her mother.
They both carried the same air of superiority.
A staff member smiled politely as she saw them off. “You can head home and wait for our message. We’ll notify you of the results by text.”
The little girl stood tall, full of confidence. “Miss, you say that, but I know I already got the lead role, right?”
The staffer was stunned.”
The elegant woman lightly touched her daughter’s armi. “Layla, don’t say that. Nothing’s certain yet. There might still be other outstanding children competing for the part. Don’t get ahead of yourself.”
Layla didn’t
- c. “Mom, I just know I’ve got it. All the other girls lauditioned with weren’t even rich. I have to get the lead.. And if I don’t. Daddy can just buy it for me!”
The staff member kept her simile–awkward but still polite. “Confidence is a good thing, sweetie. Your mother’s done a great job raising you. Now, if you’ll excuse me, please wait to hear from us.
With that, the staffer returned to the main hall.
As soon as the door shut, Jonas was already flipping through headshots in frustration. “There’s not one I like! Especially that last one–Layla! What was that? I wanted her to play a poor, miserable little thing–not some haughty peacock strutting around! Who was she putting on that ridiculous act for? Just looking at her pissed me off! Do we let anyone audition now Don’t you guys screen these people?”
The assistant director was thoroughly embarrassed.
The staffer who had just escorted Layla twitched at the corner of her mouth. “Jonas, don’t be mad. Layla’s family has money and influence; we had to show a little courtesy. And she really thinks she’s got the role. She hasn’t gone far–she might’ve heard everything”
Jonas slammed the audition folder shut. “Give her the role? Am I insane, or are they? The kid’s clueless, and the parents clearly don’t know any better!”
He turned, irritated, to the team. “Has that girl Chloe shown up yet?”
A staff member checked the time. “Yes, but her agent only contacted us this morning, the notice was a little last–minute. They’re on their way now! Should be here in about thirty minutes.”
Jonas’s scowl cased a little “You’re sure she’s coming?”
The staffer, a bit guilty, said. “I’ll wait outside”

Finioned
Layla, still parched from her dramatic performance, was just about to take a drink when she heard hurried footsteps. approaching.
Chloe was wearing a light blue dress, pattering along behind Kelly on quick little feet.
Layla’s expression shifted “Stop right there!”
Chloe froze, looking up as Layla stepped in front of her.
“You here to audition?”
Chloe was briefly stunned by Layla’s polished looks, but then nodded.
Kelly quickly put on a polite smile. “Yes, we’re here for the audition. Sorry–can you step aside? We’re running a bit late.”
Layla stood tall and blocked their path. “The lead actress has already been chosen. I am the lead now. So you two don’t need to go in. Besides, showing up late to an audition? So unprofessional. Don’t embarrass yourselves.”
Kelly’s smile vanished. She took Chloe’s hand and walked forward. “Sorry, even if the lead’s already been decided, I’m still going to take my client all the way through to the end. Now please move.”
Layla sneered. “But ma’am, bringing that little girl in there is a waste of everyone’s time. She won’t get picked anyway! You’re just embarrassing yourselves!”
Right then, the staffer from earlier rushed out of the room–and the moment she saw Chloe, her face lit up. “Oh, baby girl! Our director’s been waiting for you!”
Layla’s smile froze as she watched, dumbfounded, while the same staffer who’d been polite but distant with her now beamed at Chloe and rushed to her side.
“Our director is ready for you right this minute! Perfect timing–the last audition just finished. Come with me!”
