Chapter 9.
Mason sat alone in the empty house.
He slumped on the sofa and lit a cigarette.
Suddenly his phone rang–Kinsley calling.
For some reason, seeing her name now irritated him, but he answered anyway.
Her choked voice came through: “Mason, are you okay? Is your grandfather still angry? Should I apologize to him and Aria?”
“I was just defending you because I love you so much. I didn’t want them scolding you.”
Mason didn’t respond, coldly smoking his cigarette as he listened.
Growing impatient with his silence, Kinsley pressed: “Mason, what’s wrong?”
“I’m not actually mad at Aria. I know she was just jealous of your love for me, so she teamed up with her male friend to create that dress–all to teach me a lesson.”
“I understand all that…”
She emphasized “male friend” heavily, as if reminding Mason of something. But hearing this only
fueled his anger.
If she hadn’t mentioned the dress, Mason might never have thought to check the house surveillance. Since she brought it up, he was determined to uncover the whole truth.
“Kinsley Scott,” he said, deliberately spacing out her name, “I’m not in the mood to chat with you right now.”
This was the first time Mason had ever used her full name. Hearing it, Kinsley’s breath caught in her
throat.
She was already unsettled that Mason hadn’t immediately chased after her when she ran out. Now
this cold distance made her increasingly uneasy.
Before she could say anything more, Mason abruptly ended the call.

Chapter 9
He opened the surveillance footage on his phone and reviewed the video from delivery to unboxing.
The more he watched, the deeper his frown grew.
The footage showed Kinsley opening the package early that morning.
She first took out the dress, held it against herself, and twirled happily.
The next moment, she left and returned with fake blood packets. When Mason wasn’t looking, she
splattered the fake blood all over the dress.
Then she resealed the package, kicked it into a corner, and pretended she hadn’t seen it.
Mason was shaking with rage. He hurled his phone to the ground, shattering it.
He thought about how much he had trusted Kinsley, even refusing to hear Aria’s explanations.
His heart had been completely blinded.
He recalled forcing Aria to kneel before Kinsley and apologize.
What a humiliation that must have been for her!
Instantly, Mason’s heart felt like it was being torn apart by thousands of ants.
Without hesitation, his eyes bloodshot, he drove like a madman to Kinsley’s place.
