Chapter 5
The paternity test results would take three days.
There was a party to attend the next day.
Payton Blair was about to throw her 18th birthday party, and she had invited our entire family.
We had some connections with the Blair family, so of course we had to attend.
Jade and Payton were closer friends–they were only two years apart.
My parents were socializing with
members of the Blair family. After briefly
greeting them, I found a quiet spot to
drink.

Jade had been in a terrible mood these past two days. She’d been hiding away crying who knows how many times, but whenever I asked her about it, she’d say she was fine.
“Jessie.” Someone suddenly called my name from behind.
I turned to see who it was, then calmly turned back around. “Mr. Blair, long time
no see.”
Jacob Blair wore a black shirt with two
buttons undone, revealing glimpses of his collarbone. He had a silver chain around his neck that caught the light.
He slowly walked over, even approaching

railing in front of me, encircling me at a very close distance.
“Jacob.” I said his name as a warning.
He didn’t let go. Instead, he continued in
an intimate tone:
“I saw your fiancé come in with some girl.
He even seemed like he wanted to mess
with your sister.”
“What’s that got to do with you?” I said coldly.
“I also saw Aron holding another woman’s hand,” he chuckled softly, “You used to get upset when other people even looked at me twice. Where’s your possessiveness now?”

Jacob and I dated in college. We had just turned adults then. This was my first relationship, so I invested a lot of emotion into it. We were both very possessive of each other.
Later we fought over some things and broke up. After he went abroad for further studies, I never contacted him.
We were the same type of people— ambitious, unwilling to back down, and we wouldn’t let love stand in the way of our careers. So when he went abroad, I didn’t try to stop him.
However, the night I got engaged to Aron last year, he called.

I answered, but I didn’t speak. He was
silent too.
After a long while, he said: “Do you like him?”
I said: “That’s none of your business.”
Jacob then said with certainty: “He’s not your type. You two will break up soon.”
I hung up the phone. I hate it most when men are more confident than I am.
Now it seems he was right.
My engagement to Aron couldn’t even last two years.
“When did you come back to the
country?” I asked.

“I just landed this morning,” Jacob said.
He was really dedicated to attend his sister’s 18th birthday party.
“Let me go. I need to go downstairs and check on the situation.” From my position, I could see some commotion downstairs.
Jacob didn’t move away. He said: “Don’t worry. I already talked to Payton. If anyone messes with Jade, she can hit
them directly. With me here, no one can bully your sister.”
I turned around to face him. “Jacob, what do you mean? Are you trying to sabotage my engagement to Aron?”
He lowered his head, pressing his

you. The heir position in their family will never go to him. His abilities can’t even compare to his own sister, let alone his cousin. His marriage alliance with you is just to give himself more leverage. Why would you choose such a disloyal business partner?
“I’m different. On one hand, I’m a businessman who keeps his word. On the other hand, I’ve only slept with you, so I’m much cleaner than he is.”
I fell silent.
Jacob was more brazen than before he
went abroad.
He spoke without restraint.
