Chapter 7
I dragged the sobbing Jade back home from Payton’s room.

“What’s there to cry about?” I handed Jade some tissues. “I already told you— you’re my sister.”
Jade looked up at me with her red, swollen eyes and started crying again.
“What if I’m really not your sister? Aron and Joy definitely have something going on. What if she comes back to the Ryan family and turns against you because Aron tells her to? He’s your fiancé–why is he protecting Joy like this? He must be trying to take advantage of her confusion and get her to fight you for the family
assets.”

The Ryan family’s assets are enormous. If it’s just Jade and me splitting them, there’s more than enough to go around. Jade isn’t ready to manage the company yet–she’s still young, so my parents and I aren’t rushing to have her learn business
management.
We originally planned to have Jade gradually take on responsibilities after she graduated from college.
I stroked her head and sighed softly. “The results will be out in two days. You’re definitely my real sister.”
My parents and Jade don’t understand where my confidence comes from. I can’t explain my memories from when I was
five, so I plan to let the paternity test silence everyone.

Jade might think I agreed to the paternity test between Joy and my parents because I have doubts, but really I just think it’s the simplest way to resolve the issue.
Joy hasn’t affected my family for the past twenty years, but she should be punished for the wrongs she’s committed.
But I underestimated human malice.
On the day Jade went back to school, she encountered some trouble there.
Nia Witt, a teacher friend from Jade’s university, forwarded me a post from
their school forum.

lifestyle, but turns out she’s a fake heiress who stole someone else’s identity. Even in this situation, she still shows up to class. When your real mom switched babies at the hospital twenty years ago, she probably never imagined the real heiress would be capable enough to get into the same university as you, right? Nia said, “Jessie, this is about Jade, isn’t it? How did your family’s business spread so fast that it even reached the school? This doesn’t make sense.”
She was right–it didn’t make sense.
Normal people wouldn’t publicize something that could negatively impact
them, so this obviously couldn’t have been

That meant the mastermind behind this
was Joy.
As a teacher, Nia follows many students on social media. She’d already seen people trying to expose the identity of the story’s protagonist.
I asked her to contact someone to delete the post. “I owe you one–let me take you to dinner sometime.”
She laughed. “You don’t need to thank
- me. Unverified stories like this shouldn’t
be posted in the first place. I’ll contact the relevant teachers to have this post removed.”
“But even if we delete the post, you probably can’t stop the gossip,” she warned. 5/6

I just didn’t get it–if Joy was so certain she was the child who’d been maliciously switched, why didn’t she even have the patience to wait a few days for the test results?
