Chapter 9
“What are you doing?” Another male voice suddenly spoke from behind us.

Aron, who had somehow entered without us noticing, walked straight over and helped Joy to her feet, tenderly wiping away the tears on her face with his hand.
Then he turned around and angrily addressed my parents:
“Mr. and Mrs. Ryan, even though you’re elders, you can’t use your parental authority to scold Joy like this. She’s suffered so much hardship abroad and finally came back home. Instead of feeling the warmth of family, she has to endure your anger because of someone who isn’t
even blood–related.”

down Joy’s face, making her look pitiful and vulnerable.
“Joy, did you give Aron the passcode to this house?” I suddenly spoke up, breaking the atmosphere. I was certain I had locked the door when we came in.
They froze instantly. My parents finally realized how odd it was for Aron to appear here.
Last time, Aron had accompanied Joy to the paternity test. Now he had suddenly appeared again.
It was hard not to wonder about the relationship between him and Joy.
“Aron, how did you get here?” Lily asked
with a frown.

Joy was still crying, but her answer was quite telling.
“Mom, I told Aron. I wasn’t adjusting well here before, so he came to check on me. He’s Jessie’s fiancé, which means we’ll be family in the future, so I told him.”
My parents, aside from being in an awkward position regarding Jade’s situation, weren’t naive.
“So you do know he’s my fiancé,” I said calmly. “My fiancé doesn’t know the passcode to where I live, but he knows yours. Does that seem reasonable?”
“Jessie…”
Aron naturally couldn’t bear to see Joy

criticized. He said to me, “Jessie, how can you slander your sister like this? There’s nothing inappropriate between her and me. I just came to check on her.”
I thought to myself: “They have nothing between them?”
They had already started fantasizing about their future together.
“Really? I don’t believe it,” I said flatly, then added before they could speak, “Unless you let me see your chat history.”
Both fell silent again.
Aron was the first to explain: “Jessie, don’t you trust me at all anymore? Or are you trying to break off our engagement?”

Clearly, Aron wanted to break off our engagement, but he was shifting the blame onto me.

Well, this would save me from having to deal with it later.
“Fine,” I turned to look at my parents. “Dad, Mom, why don’t you contact his family? Let’s settle this today. I don’t want to delay him and Joy any longer.”
My parents had obviously seen that Aron wasn’t someone who could spend a lifetime with me. Normally, they would have advised me to think twice about breaking off an engagement, to wait at least a few months until the business
collaboration ended.
But what happened today made them

With their experience, they knew what Aron was after.
Aron’s ambitions were too big, but his capabilities didn’t match them.

on had only spoken casually, not pecting my parents to actually agree and call his parents right away. He was stunned at first, but seeing the joy in Joy’s eyes, he decided not to stop it.
