They turned to look at me.
Lucas’s mom frowned.
“What are you doing here? I don’t want to see
you!”
Sunny looked me up and down, smiling, and
said to Lucas:
“Honey, I’m taking care of your mom. Why
hire a nurse?”
She glanced at me and shook her head.
“This one doesn’t look trustworthy. I don’t
want her near your mom.”
<
Lucas’s mom laughed.
She pointed at Lucas and said:
“Lucas, what kind of woman did you marry?
She looks cheap. Sunny’s classy.”
“I didn’t want you to marry her!”
“Now that Sunny’s back, divorce her!”
I stood in the doorway, listening and nodding.
“You’re right. Tell Lucas to divorce me.”
I hadn’t made enough money. I couldn’t ask
for a divorce.
The contract would end in three days. I could
make tens of thousands in those three days.
<
Lucas frowned.
He said my name.
“Riley!”
“Go get ready for the transfusion!”
I raised my eyebrows, went to another bed,
and lay down.
Lucas’s mom yelled:
“Get out! You blackmailed Lucas into
marrying you with your blood type!”
“Sunny has the same blood type. She’ll give
me blood. Leave!”
She wanted to get rid of me and explain the
く
situation to Sunny.
She wanted to tell her that Lucas hadn’t
cheated, and that I’d tricked him into
marrying me with the blood transfusion.
I didn’t care. I was there to make money, not
build a family.
Lucas was paying me. If he didn’t tell me to
leave, I wouldn’t.
Seeing me lying on the bed, Lucas’s mom got
angry.
She pointed at me, grabbed a glass of water,
and threw it at me.
The glass hit my head. I felt pain, and my
head was sticky.
<
Lucas came to me.
He looked at the cut and said:
“Get it bandaged, then give blood.”
“Oh!”
Lucas’s mom started crying:
“I feel awful! I’m itchy! Lucas! Make her give
me blood!”
She hated me. She didn’t want Lucas to
check on me.
Lucas looked weird, and said nothing.
“Lucas.‘
<
Sunny smiled, took Lucas’s arm, and said:
“She’s your mom’s daughter–in–law, so she
should do this.”
“Let’s go, and not bother Lucas’s mom’s
treatment.”
Lucas frowned, glanced at me.
I gave him an “OK.”
“Go. It’s just a little blood. It’ll heal fast.”
I wanted him to go, so I wouldn’t lose the fifty
grand.
