Lucas sounded like he was crying, but I didn’t
care.
“Lucas, I’m not yours. The contract needs
both of us to agree.”
“I won’t be your tool to make Sunny jealous or
your mom’s blood bank.”
I reminded him of the deal.
He was silent.
Then he said:
“Riley, you really want to leave me?”
“Is everyone leaving me?”
His words were weird.
I said:
“Lucas, it was just a contract. Sunny’s back.
Get back together with her. It’s perfect!!
Lucas laughed.
“Ha! If you want to see us married, I’ll make it
happen!”
He hung up.
I put my phone away.
The first thing I did after leaving the airport
was buy a car.
Home was too far from the city. I needed a
car.
After three hours, I saw my grandpa.
He was dozing on the porch swing.
“Grandpa!”
I yelled, putting all my love into that word.
He got up and ran to open the gate.
After his surgery three years ago, he got
better every day, stronger than some young
people.
He was happy I was back and wanted to
catch fish for me.
I stopped him and said:

I took him to a restaurant in town and got him
his favorite sweet and sour fish.
Then I told him I wanted to build a house.
He loved the idea.
I hired a construction crew the next day.
I got a hotel room in the city.
One room for each of us until the house was
done.
I spent time with Grandpa.
I took him on trips, and showed him what new
tech could do.
Lucas didn’t call or text. He vanished.
I was glad to get rid of him.
I thought I wouldn’t see him again.
But I saw Lucas and Sunny on social media
