Chapter 5
Georgia’s POV
Exactly five minutes later, a fleet of black Maybachs pulled up in front of me.
My brother, Lonnie Fuller, stepped out first, and behind him were lawyers, bodyguards, and a handful of unfamiliar faces I didn’t recognize.
Everyone stopped the moment he did.
Then he looked at me, and his gaze landed on the swollen red slap mark on my cheek, glowing under the dim yellow lights.
Lonnie then took off his suit jacket and gently draped it over my shoulders.
“Ten minutes,” he said calmly to the lawyer beside him, so calm it was chilling. “Get them out of my sight.”
Mr. Homer Manwaring, our family’s lawyer, gave a firm nod and headed upstairs with several bodyguards.
Not long after, I heard the knock on the door, followed by Jordan’s irritated voice.
“Who the hell is knocking at this hour-?”
Then the door opened.
Even from downstairs, I could hear the shift in his tone, panic sinking in fast.
“Wait, what are you doing? Who are you people?!”
“Mr. Jordan Dawson,” the lawyer’s voice echoed down the stairwell, cool and firm, “you are currently trespassing in someone else’s home. Here’s a copy of the property deed and a signed power of attorney from Miss Fuller. You need to leave. Immediately.”
“Trespassing?! This is my house!” Mrs. Dawson snapped. “Who do you people think you are?! Storming into my home like this?!”
I clenched my fists.
Even now, she was still claiming my place as her own.
Just then, Lonnie began walking up the stairs, and I followed right behind him.
“Apex Technologies doesn’t tolerate employees who lack basic ethics,” he said coldly. “You, and your entire team are done. Don’t bother showing up tomorrow.”
The moment Jordan saw my brother’s face, the color drained from his.
“Mr. Fuller… I can explain-” He tried to stand, but his legs buckled beneath him. “This is just a misunderstanding! A huge misunderstanding!”
“Jordan, say something!” Mrs. Dawson shrieked beside him. “Tell your boss she’s crazy! She-”
“You must be confused,” Lonnie interrupted, his eyes sweeping past her. “Allow me to introduce myself properly. This is my sister, Georgia Fuller.”
Mrs. Dawson’s voice died mid-sentence.
She turned to stare at me, then at my brother, her mouth hanging open but completely speechless.
Jordan collapsed onto the floor, mumbling over and over, “No… no, this isn’t possible… This
can’t be real…”
Watching the panic twist their faces filled me with a sense of ruthless satisfaction.
“What’s the matter?” I said, stepping in front of Mrs. Dawson. I looked down at her from above. “Weren’t you just bragging about how this place was yours?”
She clutched the baby tighter and shrank back. “I… I didn’t know you were Mr. Fuller’s
sister…”
“Oh, so that makes it okay to throw me out?” My voice dropped lower, colder. “If I weren’t Lonnie’s sister, would you have gotten away with all of this?”
At this moment, the bodyguards were already tossing their belongings out of the apartment. Mrs. Dawson’s massive suitcase was the first to go, and it burst open at the doorstep, her things spilling everywhere.
“Hold up.” I stopped them with a wave. “Check their bags. I want to make sure none of my things were stolen.”
Sure enough, buried inside Mrs. Dawson’s purse were several of my necklaces and a limited-edition watch.
Swiftly, I snatched them out of her hands.
“You thief! You really tried to steal my stuff?!” I barked.
Her face flushed bright red. “I… I thought…”
“Thought what? That these belong to you now?” I snapped.
Checking his watch, Lonnie said, “Time’s up.”
Without hesitation, the bodyguards stepped in and grabbed Jordan and his mother by the arms, dragging them toward the door.
“Wait-wait! Hold on!” Jordan struggled like mad. “Mr. Fuller, please, let me explain! I know I messed up!”
Then he turned to me, eyes pleading. “Georgia, please. I’m sorry. I really am. Let’s start over, I swear. This will never happen again.”
Looking at him, I couldn’t help but recall our past.
He used to look at me like this as well while whispering sweet nothings and promising me forever.
