Chapter 19

My hands were pinned above my head as that familiar voice whispered in my ear: “Caught you.”
I said in terror, “I’m sorry, I don’t know what you’re talking about. Please let me go.”
The voice above me carried a hint of pity: “Why did you check out? Amelia, you remember me, don’t you?”
I shook my head in denial: “I’m sorry, I really don’t know what you’re talking about. I just wanted to go somewhere else.”
As loud countdown echoed from outside the window, a scorching breath suddenly sealed off my breathing.
A chill ran down my spine as slender fingertips gripped me harshly, as if Christian wanted to crush my bones.
Gavin lifted his knee, pinning me firmly against the wall: “How can you be so heartless? I told you, if you dared to run, I’d break
your legs!”
I pleaded desperately: “Please let me go, I really don’t know you!”
His fingertips penetrated instantly, the sharp pain making me
gasp.

The wetness by my ear intensified as that hand suddenly moved to the front.
I cried out, trying to dodge, but was once again firmly restrained in place, unable to move.
His movements brought intense aching, yet mixed with familiar sweetness that brought tears to my eyes.
Suddenly, scattered memories flooded
my
mind.
The study, the bedroom, the car, and the school library.
Countless similar scenes and sensations surfaced in my brain.
I suddenly pushed him away: “Gavin, you bastard!”
Gavin said with delight: “You remember who I am?”
I said: “Let me go.”
He said through gritted teeth: “You don’t remember deeply enough.”
As the long–absent violent impact struck, my voice gradually drowned in the cheers from outside the window.
“Ding dong!”
The doorbell rang again. A hotel staff member asked: “Ms.

Crawford, did you request checkout?”

This time it was actually a real staff member outside the door.
I was pressed against the door, shaking my head and whispering: “No. Stop…”
Gavin gripped my shoulders tightly.
The person outside pressed the bell again and asked: “Miss, are you packing? May I come in?”
I called out hoarsely: “No… don’t…”
With a “click,” the key card was swiped, and my eyes widened.
Gavin braced against the door, once again slamming me hard against the wall.
I stared at the service worker’s feet visible through the door crack, my whole body trembling violently.
Suddenly, the door slammed shut again.
Gavin held my weakened body with one arm and shouted toward the door: “We don’t need to check out, thank you.”
The staff member replied: “Alright, sir.”
The person outside left, but I still instinctively held my breath,

my brain nearly oxygen–deprived.
Gavin frowned as he lifted me up, patting my back hard: “Amelia, breathe.”

Hearing this, I finally exhaled sharply, recovering as my vision finally focused.
I lay against his chest, panting heavily, as if Christian wanted to inhale all the air in the room.
Inexplicable tears instantly welled up as I pounded his back fiercely.
I shouted: “Why? Why did you come looking for me? Gavin, we’re divorced, you’re free! We owe each other nothing. Let me go, and let yourself go too.”
I cried until I hiccupped, while Gavin gently patted my back.
Gavin placed me on the bed.
The lights outside the window draped over my shoulders like a golden veil, softening the stern contours of the man before me.
I looked up at Gavin against the light.
The once cold man now looked at me with pleading eyes: “Amelia, tell me, how much do you actually remember?”

I stared at him blankly, saying nothing.

“Please tell me, how much do you actually remember?” Gavin’s eyes glistened with tears.
This was the first time I’d seen him look so vulnerable, and my heart suddenly ached.
I said: “I’m sorry, I really can’t remember clearly.”
My memories were very fragmented. I only remembered scattered moments between us.
I read the diary. What was written in the diary felt like messages from another person.
I couldn’t accept that it was me, nor could I accept everything in those videos.
Those memories felt like they were spliced into my life.
But my body’s emotions were honest – I was still drawn to Gavin the first moment I saw him in the supermarket.
When Gavin called my name, my emotions still stirred.
However, a voice in my heart kept warning me: no, you can’t, get away from him.
If we didn’t end this endless cycle of drama, we’d both go insane.

Gavin watched my cold expression as the hopeful light gradually dimmed, and he slowly lowered his head.
Time seemed to stand still in the room, and the noise outside the
window fell silent.
After a long while, Gavin looked at me again: “It’s okay, Amelia, it’s okay. We can start over.”
I watched as Gavin knelt on one knee before me.
He lifted my hand and kissed it gently: “Let me introduce myself again. Hello, Amelia Crawford, I’m Gavin Harris, and I love
you.”
