Jared, unaware of whom Leon had just met, said simply, “I attended the auction at Tidalus, but I didn’t manage to buy the item I wanted, Mr. Jacques.”
“Oh, that’s certainly an unforgivable offense. What did you have your eye on, Mr. Ford?” asked Leon.
“I wanted Andrew Jamison’s posthumous work,” Jared stated boldly.
Leon blurted out in confusion, “Why does everyone want Andrew Jamison’s works?”
Jared had keen senses and latched onto his words immediately. “Everyone? Who else wanted it other than me?”
Leon realized he’d slipped up and laughed in an attempt to feign ignorance, as he couldn’t reveal Samuel and Yvonne’s involvement in this to just anyone.
But the person Jared was thinking of was Luther.
Since Luther was in charge of the auction venue, he would definitely have an advantage. Jared speculated that was why Luther was able to reserve the auction item in advance, preventing it from being publicly auctioned. He’d then given it to Yvonne to earn her favor.
“From now on, please reserve Andrew Jamison’s works for me in advance, Mr. Jacques. I’ll pay twice the asking price,” instructed Jared.
Leon, unfortunately, would agree to just about anything. “Sure, sure.“!
After Jared left, he coincidentally met Anthony in the elevator.
“Have you met Luther?” asked Anthony. “You guys didn’t fight, did you?”
Jared walked straight into the elevator. “It was fine. Let’s leave together.”
The two of them took the elevator downstairs, then sat in the lobby smoking cigarettes.
“I was really worried that you and Luther would start fighting again. Did you only maintain your composure because Yvonne was here just now?”
“Did you meet Yvvy here?” Jared asked immediately. He added in obvious shock, “I didn’t know that she was here. I didn’t see her.”
Then, he thought about the fact that Luther was here too and started cursing up a storm.
“Yvvy might have been here to see Luther. He’s deliberately making use of his connection to the auction because she needs a way to get her hands on Andrew Jamison’s works.”
He scoffed. “Is this the despicable method he’s using to lure Yvvy?
Anthony put out the cigarette in his hand, hesitant to speak. “But I saw Yvonne speaking with an assistant from Hover Group, Howard Wellington. It seemed like they knew each other.”
Jared was startled.
For a moment, he was lost in a daze. Swirling cigarette smoke obscured his vision.
“Why wasn’t I aware that Yvonne also knows people from Hover Group?” he demanded. “She doesn’t have a job now, so I don’t even know why she was here, and I haven’t talked to her either.”
Anthony found it strange as well.
The cigarette burned to the end, scalding Jared and immediately bringing him back to his senses.
“Yvvy has no connection to the Hovers. Back when she held a jewelry exhibition for Ford Corporation, I think she invited the

Hovers to display their collection as well. She’s only ever had dealings with them in an official capacity.” “I see. It’s not surprising that she knows Howard, then,” said Anthony, not dwelling on it any further. “Yvvy was definitely here because Luther can contact the organizers of the auction for her. In fact, he personally admitted that he wanted to take my place next to Yvvy just now.
“She’s been working as my secretary for the past few years, so Luter is interested in her because she understands me and the workings of Ford Corporation. He’s just using every means available to gain her favor so he can use her against me.
“That’s why I want Yvvy to return to being my secretary. Her work capabilities will be of use to me. I have faith that she knows not to cross any lines. There’s no way she’ll really help the Felands and make an enemy of me and my family.”
Anthony didn’t catch the strange flash of emotion in Jared’s eyes.
“You understand Yvvy too, Anthony, but Luther is blinded by his arrogance,” Jared added, lowering his gaze as if deliberately trying to emphasize his point.
“I also believe that Yvvy won’t betray me, whether emotionally or in terms of work, so I’ll win her heart again and beat Luther.” He looked at the spot on his finger where he’d been scalded by the cigarette and reached out to touch it.
It hurt, the clear pain making his emotions feel increasingly acute
He felt shaken, but he forced himself to calm down. He reminded himself that the love rival he had to deal with was Luther, and
not…
There was no way Yvonne had anything to do with the Hovers.
