In spite of Shane’s accusatory tone, Yvonne remained calm. “I did get a text about it.‘

“Why haven’t you gone to the hospital then?” Shane questioned.

He couldn’t seem to understand why Yvonne had shown up here. Glancing at the private dining rooms nearby, he continued, “Who did you meet here? Regardless of whether it was a work meeting or a personal one, I doubt anyone is more important than Jared.”
Shane hadn’t attended college with them. He’d gotten to know them after getting involved in his family business. All along, he and Anthony had often joked about not having a childhood sweetheart like Yvonne beside them.
She took excellent care of Jared, paying close attention to everything, from his work to his private life.
For people like them who hoped to inherit their fathers‘ companies, it was the norm to be constantly engaged in internal power struggles with fellow ambitious family members.
When work got hectic, Jared suffered from the toll of all the late nights and business meetings that involved booze. He constantly had gastric issues. Once, he’d kept drinking for three days straight in order to close a deal and ended up coughing up blood.
When Yvonne drove over to pick him up, she was so infuriated that her eyes turned red as she rebuked him for not taking better care of himself. Alas, her tears kept streaming down her face, and it was Jared who had to hold her close and console her.
After that incident, Yvonne personally prepared all of Jared’s meals and kept a close eye on his diet to make sure his digestive system recovered.
Shane had to admit that both he and Anthony had envied Jared for that.
Nevertheless, due to the sheer number of business meetings Jared had to attend, he would still

of him,” Shane declared.
The elevator arrived, and Shane pressed the button for the basement. However, Yvonne pressed for the first floor instead.
“Did you drive here by yourself?”
“Nope,” Yvonne replied. “But I’m not going to the hospital. I’m going home.
Within moments, the elevator arrived on the first floor. Shane hadn’t quite wrapped his head around Yvonne’s response, but when he realized she truly intended to leave, he quickly blocked the exit.

like this.”
She used to fret over Jared in the past, but she didn’t care at all now. If she continued acting this way, there was a chance that some other woman might steal Jared away from her. Wasn’t she worried about that?
“Hurry up and head to the hospital, or else you’ll regret it,” he warned.
“His situation has nothing to do with me.!
Uninterested in wasting her time explaining things to Shane, Yvonne shoved his arm away and left.
It was 11:00 pm when Jared was finally discharged from the hospital.
Yvonne never showed up. It was Shirley who stayed by his side and tended to him the whole time. Frederick was the one who drove them back to Jared’s place.
“Mr. Ford, the doctor said you need to eat something before you can have your medicine. I’ll whip something up for you,” Shirley said.
It was her first time entering Jared’s house, but she didn’t act like a guest at all. She walked into the kitchen and put on the apron she found. It felt as though she was seizing Yvonne’s place.
She thought, “I’m Mr. Ford’s secretary now. In the future, I’ll have the chance to get closer to him and become the lady of the house!”
A little while later, Shirley went upstairs with a bowl of pasta.
Jared had showered and was resting on the couch. When he noticed the familiar apron out of the comer of his eye, he became hopeful and looked toward the doorway. However, his gaze turned cold once more.
“Shirley, don’t touch anything in this house without my permission.”
Shirley looked down puzzledly. Was he talking about the apron?
“I’m sorry, Mr. Ford. I was just concerned about your condition, and I wanted to prepare some food so you could have it before you take your medication.”
“It’s late. You’ve done a lot today. Go home and get some rest.”
Jared noticed Shirley’s aggrieved expression. After a pause, he met her expectant gaze and added, “Remember to put the apron back in its original spot.”
