Chapter 17
Never would Yvonne have expected Samuel to make such a request.
“May I know why?”

Lowering his gaze slightly, Samuel took a deep breath and replied, “I admire the vitality that comes through in your work. Given time, your second sculpture will prove to be a worthy piece to collect as well. I trust my eye for investments.”
Then, he looked at Yvonne and asked, “Are you going to decline my request, Ms. Jamison?”
After pondering briefly, Yvonne smiled and shook her head, saying, “I have no reason to decline your request, Mr. Hover. That being said, I’m the one who is seeking your help, but you’re now letting me have the final say.
“There are many acclaimed artists and designers in Jeriton City. I’m just a nobody. If I release another sculpture, it won’t be of any value to anyone. But if I have the opportunity to create a sculpture for the Hovers, I’ll be the one benefiting from the association with the family.”
Samuel wasn’t surprised by how keen she was.
“I’m truly fond of your work, Ms. Jamison. This is a win–win situation for both of us.”
“Alright then. I’ll discuss the sculpture with you at length another time, Mr. Hover,” Yvonne said. She couldn’t find any reason to refuse his request.
Just then, Holly knocked on the door before coming in with a tray of refreshments.
“Dr. Ferguson is here, Mr. Hover,” she reported.
Yvonne sat still as Isaac Ferguson, the doctor, checked on her injury.
“Other than some bruising and soft tissue damage, your arm is fine. There’s no serious injury. Remember to apply the topical pain relief spray every day and avoid exerting yourself for the next few days.
“But if things don’t improve after a week, do head to the hospital for a checkup,” Isaac instructed solemnly.
Considering the amount of care and respect Samuel was showing Yvonne, Isaac dared not slack off on the job.
“Got it. Thank you, Dr. Ferguson,” Yvonne answered.
Her worries were put to rest as well.
Turning to Samuel, she shook his hand and said, “I look forward to working with you, Mr. Hover.”
“As do I,” Samuel answered with a smile, his gaze gentle.
The final stage of promoting the jewelry exhibition was in full swing. Yvonne showed great focus and dedication as she led the team in charge of the exhibition. She was personally involved every step of the way, making sure no mistake went unnoticed.
The jewelry exhibition had been put together in the tightest timeframe, but it was the most successful of all the projects–and Wayne bore witness to it all.
He couldn’t resist trying to keep Yvonne around. “Yvonne, are you sure you don’t want to consider staying in the projects department? I’m more than happy to discuss the terms with you.”
He didn’t want to lose such a capable employee.
“That won’t be necessary. I’ve made up my mind to resign from the company. This will be my final task,” Yvonne said.
There was even a countdown on her phone, which showed there were only seven days left.
Ever since the elevator incident, Yvonne and Jared hadn’t seen each other.
For the past two days, Jared was swamped with work as he prepared for the partnership with the Hovers. For some reason, he felt restless–as if this were the calm before the storm. It left him feeling irritable and unsettled.
After the visit to the hospital, it was confirmed that Shirley’s leg injury was nowhere near a cause for concern, so she had to drop the act.
“I know I’m not very capable, Mr. Ford, but I’ll work very hard. I hope I can ease your burden.”
As Jared looked at Shirley, he recalled Yvonne, who’d always been by his side whenever he handled a new project. However, that didn’t mean he couldn’t do without her.
“Alright, you can help me with this project, Shirley,”
Jared tried his best to quash the sense of unfamiliarity he felt. Since he and Yvonne were giving each other the cold shoulder treatment, he didn’t want to be the loser by being the first to compromise.
“I won’t let you down, Mr. Ford!”
Yet, not even two days had passed before Shirley’s brimming confidence was defeated by the mountain of paperwork she was buried under.
