Chapter 26
Anthony didn’t look too pleased. Still, he continued trying to persuade Yvonne. “We’ve known each other for years, Yvonne. I’ve seen for myself just how much you and Jared love each other. Don’t do something that you’ll regret.”
Even when facing a mutual friend, Yvonne responded calmly. “Jared and I have already broken up, and I’ve quit my job. He has nothing to do with me anymore.”
She didn’t want to cry or kick up a fuss; she didn’t want the whole world to know about this. The relationship had only been between her and Jared–it was over, and
she’d moved on.
Anthony and Shane were stunned by her words. Was she really going to let such a longstanding relationship end just like that?
“Even if you two have called it quits, you can still be friends, right? Look, just visit Jared at the hospital.” Anthony knew very well what Jared was like at the hospital. That was why he was so insistent.
Yvonne was unmoved, though. Isabel, on the other hand, barked out an exasperated laugh. “Does Yvvy owe him anything? How can an asshole like him have the nerve to ask anything of her? Are you guys here to guilt–trip Yvvy into this because you think he hasn’t done anything wrong?”
“There’s no right or wrong when it comes to matters of the heart. It’s normal for couples to fight–you can’t say anyone is innocent in this. You need two hands to clap, don’t you?”
His words hit Isabel’s nerves. “Lean forward so I can slap you. I’ll show you it takes only one hand to make something clap.”
Shane fell silent.
“Don’t tell me you two are unaware of Jared cheating on Yvvy with that college student he sponsored! What use do you have for your eyes, then? Are they just there for show? Yvvy’s already being nice enough by quitting and breaking up with him without causing a fight.
“If I were in her shoes, I would’ve made sure the evidence of his cheating made the headlines of all newspapers in Jeriton City for three days!” Isabel snapped.
“It’s not like Jared actually did anything with Shirley,” Shane argued. He was clearly on Jared’s side. “Think about how long you and Jared have been together, Yvonne. Don’t you think you’re being too heartless?”
Yvonne was starting to find the whole situation funny. Did they think whoever caused a fuss was the one in the right?
Before she could say anything, Isabel gave her a look, telling her to leave the berating to her.
“What exactly do you define as ‘doing anything‘? Do we have to catch them in bed? Emotional cheating is still cheating. How is Jared being in an accident any of Ywy’s business? Is he going to blame everything that happens on a woman? He should change his name to that, then!
“I hate when assholes like him act like they’re terribly faithful and loving. Yvvy broke up with him a month ago -who does he think he’s putting this act on for? This is your final warning. Try to guilt–trip Yvvy again, and I’ll shame you online!”
Isabel refused to put up with Anthony and Shane’s nonsense. She refuted everything they had to say.
Anthony and Shane exchanged a look. Neither of them had expected things to turn out like this. Anthony said, “I’m sorry, Yvonne. I’m not trying to force you into anything. Please visit Jared at the hospital once you think things through.”
“Get lost!” Isabel slammed the door in their faces and locked it. She was furious as she turned back but instantly turned docile and gentle when she faced Yvonne. ” Are you okay, Yvvy?”
Yvonne was only briefly dazed. “Why wouldn’t I be when you’re so protective of me? Your throat must be hoarse after that debacle. I’ll get you some honey water.”
Isabel shook her head. “This isn’t the time for honey water! We need to have some drinks to celebrate assholes getting what they deserve!”
Jared had been admitted to a VIP ward in the hospital. He’d woken up once but was asleep again due to his dizziness.
Shirley had hurried to the hospital to care for him as soon as she’d heard about the accident. It was just the two of them in the ward just then.
She stared at his handsome face and couldn’t resist reaching out to stroke it. To her, he was the most perfect man alive. She wanted him. In the next moment, she leaned down to steal a secret kiss.
Jared mumbled, “Yvvy…”
