Yvonne stopped Jared and said icily, “I’ve already made myself clear. Is there anything that you don’t understand? I don’t want anyone to disturb my life, so please
leave.”
Jared let out an irritated, clipped laugh. He didn’t expect her to refuse to let him in. “Haven’t first?”
had enough of this, Yvvy? Do you have to force me to apologize
His head hurt, and his emotions were spiraling out of control again. They forced him to give in. “Look, we’ll just take it that I’m wrong, okay? I’ll apologize. There. Are you happy now? Hurry up and move back in with me now that I’ve done something to please you.”
Yvonne was unmoved. “That’s not necessary. Your business has nothing to do with me.”
Jared was visibly frustrated. He didn’t know what to do. “What else do you want now that I’ve apologized? Have I made a mistake huge enough for you to kick up such a fuss?”
“Aren’t you the one who’s fussing now?” Yvonne was starting to run out of patience. She didn’t want the ice cream she’d bought to melt.
He didn’t seem to hear her. He said, “You’re upset that I’ve arranged for Shirley to be in the secretarial department, right? I’ll transfer you back so you can watch us and see whether we do anything inappropriate. I’m perfectly fine with you monitoring me. Is that enough?”
“I’ve already quit.” Yvonne’s responses were all rejections.
“Take it back, then! Come back to me, and we can go back to how things used to be!” Jared shouted, losing his cool again. “I told you I never agreed to a breakup- this isn’t something you can just inform me of!
“Do you want me to beg you, Yvonne? I’m saying no to both your resignation and your demand for a breakup! Take them back, and I’ll act like none of this ever happened!”
Yvonne hadn’t expected him to be such a nuisance. She said, “Go back to the hospital and get your head checked, Jared. Why can’t you understand simple words?”
She tried to sidestep him, but he ran ahead of her and stood before the door. Then, he grabbed her wrist tightly. His eyes were slightly bloodshot, and he seemed to be restraining himself as he growled, “You’re the one who can’t understand me! I won’t agree to a breakup, which means we’re still together! Our relationship is
still the same!”
He was used to being the one in charge in their relationship.
Yvonne didn’t want to waste time arguing with him. The only reason she didn’t try too hard to break free was because she didn’t want the things in her hands to end up on the ground.
After a brief impasse, she decided to try a different way. “Let me go first. I can’t open the door.”
Jared exhaled deeply, relieved by her words. “Are you finally going to be obedient? That’s the way you should be. You only want me to coax you after a fight, right? You should stop once you’ve achieved that.
“Throwing the occasional tantrum can spice things up, but don’t use a breakup to threaten me. Anyway, this matter is over.”
”
After saying all that, his insecurities and worries were quelled. He knew Yvonne still cared deeply about him–she’d only been acting standoffish.
“I haven’t slept well at all recently. Take a nap with me later after we eat,” he said. He was too used to demanding her affection like she owed it to him.
Yvonne didn’t respond. After opening the door, she stood in the doorway and said, “Wait here for a while.”
He was initially confused, but the realization dawned on him when he saw the renovation materials piled inside. “It’s messy inside because you’re renovating, right? You’re still as considerate as ever–you know I have to stay away from the dust now that I’m injured. I’ll wait here, then. Come get me when you’re done
tidying.”
Yvonne didn’t deny it. She shut the door and headed inside, after which she pulled out her phone and called the hospital, “You have a runaway patient.”
