Jared stood outside the villa and waited in a rare show of patience. From where he stood, he could even see Yvonne moving around in the kitchen.
“I bet she’s going to make my favorite ravioli,” he said as he waited expectantly. His life would go back to normal as long as she stopped talking about breaking up.
Several minutes later, a car arrived from the hospital, and out came the Ford family’s bodyguards and some medical personnel.
“Yvvy! Yvonne!” Jared cried. He didn’t expect things to turn out like this. “Yvonne, get out here!”
Ultimately, he was taken back to the hospital without even stepping foot into the villa.
There was finally peace outside, and Yvonne enjoyed the ravioli she’d prepared.
The renovation team arrived at 8:00 am. She said, “I know the renovation timeline is quite rushed. Thanks for everything, guys.”
She sat on the couch and kept an eye on the progress. The sun’s rays streamed into the villa, putting her in a good mood. Just then, her phone chimed. She’d received a message from Samuel.
“A belated congratulations on the success of your exhibition, Ms. Jamison. How are the preparations for your studio going? When are you going to start creating something new?”
He was the potential client for her next masterpiece, so she immediately replied to him. “The studio’s renovations are going to have to wait–I’ve temporarily set up a workshop at home. As for my new design, that will depend on what you have in mind, Mr. Hover.”
“I’ll speak to you about it in a few days, then.” This was followed by another message. “Can I see what your workshop is like?”
Yvonne got up to take photos. The large window in her workshop looked out over the backyard; all she had to do was open it to enjoy the view outside.
She and Samuel continued chatting about her designs for a long time. He’d bought her work, after all. His admiration for her made him something of a patron of hers.
Yvonne received an unexpected phone call. Half an hour later, she showed up at a cafe.
She saw Wanda Quigley seated at a table by the window and headed over to greet the latter politely. “It’s been a while, Wanda.”
The elegant, classy woman was Jared’s mother.
“Yvonne, you’re here. Have a seat.” Wanda handed Yvonne a bag with a luxury brand’s logo printed on it with a smile. She said, “I bought this bag for you because I thought it suited you. Why don’t you see whether you like it?”
Yvonne didn’t take it. Instead, she asked, “Did you want to see me about something, Wanda?”
She didn’t think this was just a simple meeting to catch up.
Wanda said, “Jared is recuperating in the hospital after a car crash, and I didn’t see you around when I went to visit him. Has something happened between you two?”
Yvonne ordered a coffee without answering the question. She already knew what Wanda wanted–the latter wasn’t here to convince her to kiss and make up with Jared; she was here to test her.
Yvonne said, “We’ve broken up, Wanda. I don’t know much about what’s going on with him now.”
Wanda feigned surprise, but the hint of a smile on her lips belied her true emotions. “Can I ask why? That’s not what Jared said.”
In truth, she already knew why the breakup had happened because of Shirley. She just hadn’t gone to the company to deal with Shirley because a materialistic gold digger like her wasn’t worthy of her time.
Yvonne was different, though. She and Jared were childhood friends, and it was clear that Jared cared about her. That was what Wanda was worried about.
“You and Jared grew up together, and I adore you. It’s not every day that you have a relationship like yours… It’s too bad you two didn’t make it to the end,” Wanda
said.
Yvonne silently sipped her coffee. She could tell Wanda hadn’t gotten to the point yet,
Wanda continued to feign disappointment as she said, “You know it wasn’t easy for Jared and me to be accepted by the Ford family. He’s not getting any younger, and everyone is urging him to get married. They want to arrange for him to marry an heiress who’s of equal standing as him.”
