“Who else could Yvonne possibly choose, if not me?” Jared was confident.
For some reason, Anthony’s mood soured upon hearing Jared’s words. Before the Jamison family’s downfall, Yvonne had many suitors surrounding her.

At that moment, Shirley drove up. “Mr. Ford, I’m here to pick you up.”
Aware that Jared and his friends were drinking here, Shirley displayed her usual gentle demeanor. She knew very well that compared to Yvonne, she had no advantage in their eyes. The only thing she could grasp was Jared.
Her status as his secretary was merely an opportunity to get closer to him.
As Jared got into the car, the surroundings grew quiet. He stared out of the window, lost in thought.
The longing that came with the night was always more intense. He wondered if Yvonne had started feeling better. Was she still crying herself to sleep and unable to eat because of him?
These past few days, Yvonne had been so busy that she needed to drink two cups of coffee every day.
She was working alongside Jean, learning and preparing materials for the Intangible Cultural Heritage Promotional Event. Though it was tiring, she felt genuinely happy, especially because she could work with Jean on restoring a 14th–century crown. “Yvonne, the jewelry store called. They’ve got a batch of good–quality pearls.”
“The crown is missing pearls. I’ll go take a look,” Yvonne replied before rushing out.
She wore a simple white hoodie with denim jeans, her hair casually tied up. She was wearing flat shoes, with no makeup or jewelry.
“Ms. Jamison.”
The jewelry store manager, Tiffany Lawson, brought out the reserved pearls. “The quality of these pearls is better than that of the last batch. There are 34 of them.” Yvonne held the pearls in her hand to examine them but gently shook her head in disappointment.
“This isn’t the pearl Professor Weedle wants. As I said, the price isn’t an issue. I need the best quality pearls. Let me know when the next batch comes in.” With a sigh, she placed the pearl down with a conflicted expression.
At that moment, a woman walking out of the VIP room noticed Yvonne. “Yvonne?”
Yvonne turned around and paused when she saw the well–dressed woman in front of her. “Long time no see,
Selena.”
Selena Ford was Jared’s younger sister. As she approached, her gaze toward Yvonne was slightly condescending.
“I almost didn’t recognize you with the way you’re dressed.”
Selena had just returned to Jeriton City a few days ago and heard from Wanda that Jared and Yvonne had broken up. It was indeed good news. Selena had always disliked Yvonne.
Back when the Jamison family had been thriving, Yvonne had been the shining example of success. Wanda had always praised Yvonne whenever she’d mentioned her to Jared. Selena had been constantly compared to Yvonne and had always come up short.
Luckily, after the Jamison family’s downfall, Yvonne had fallen from grace, and Selena no longer had to compete with her.
“Are you here to buy jewelry?” Selena looked over at Yvonne, who was dressed plainly from head to toe.
The Yvonne now was a far cry from the woman Jared had pampered with endless luxury brands.
She glanced at the pearls that Tiffany was putting away. As she thought of how troubled Yvonne had looked moments before, a mocking smile appeared on her lips. “This store’s jewelry is pretty nice. Which one are you interested in? I’ll pay for it together.” There was a hint of sympathy in Selena’s eyes.
She looked miserable after leaving Jared,” she thought.
