Chapter 53
Lather could tell that Jared hadn’t faked his surprise.
““Ah, you didn’t know. Seems like I spoke out of tum, then,” he said, chuckling at himself sarcastically. Then, he walked away without another word
Jared and Anthony exchanged a look.
All along, their attempts to collaborate with Hover troup had only granted them meetings with Liars. The only time they’d ever seen Samuel was at an international conference overseas last year
Lately, with the news of Samuel’s return to Jeriton City, many people had been scrambling for an appointment, but no one had managed to sective one.
“The Felands are our competitors. No matter what Lather is trying do tonight, can’t afford to fall behind,” Jared said, getting to his feet.
He and Anthony tailed Luther, who wasn’t surprised to hear the footsteps behind him.
When they neared Samuel’s private room, they saw the two bodyards stationed outside the door.
“Sorry, this is a private area reserved by the Hovers,” one of the bodyguards, Dennis Snyder, said, stopping them.
Lather was prepared. He handed Dennis his business card and said. “I’m Luther Feland from Feland Group. I just want to have a word with Mr. Hover.”
Not to be outdone, Jared presented his business card as well and announced his identity.
ennis looked at both cards, recognizing them as significant figures in the business world. However, he couldn’t let them in without permission.
“Please wait a moment. I’ll check with Mr. Hover.”
He knocked on the door and entered
Inside the private room, Yvonne and Samuel were still talking about the sculpture.
Yvonne was seated deeper inside the room, so she couldn’t see or hear what was happening outside when the door was slightly ajar.
Dennis walked up to Samuel and whispered, “Mr. Hover, there are two men here to see you.”
Turning slightly, Samuel glanced down at the business cards. When he saw the names Ford and Feland on them, his eyes darkened.
Subtly, his gaze flickered toward Yvonne. He had no intention of letting her run into her ex here.
Ms. Ja
Jamison, I have to step for a moment. I’ll be back to try that dessert you recommended,” he said, excusing himself
Yvonne didn’t think much of it. “Okay.”
Samuel stood up and walked out of the room.
His tall, elegant figure perfectly blocked the doorway, In his well–tailored suit, his every movement exuded an air of
sophistication.
“Mr. Feland, Mr, Ford, Mr. Locke. Long time no see,” he greeted. His presence alone carried an undeniable air of authority.
In Jeriton City, the social hierarchy was sharply defined.
After Sebastian Hover, Samuel’s eldest brother, died unexpectedly and the Hover family lost their heir, there had been a period of internal tunnoil. However, Edgar Hover, Samuel’s grandfather, had taken action swiftly and groomed Samuel to take over,

restoring the family’s control.
There was virtually no industry in Jeriton City in which the Hovers were not involved.
“Both the Felands and the Fords were ambitious, seeking to elevate heir businesses. Securing a partnership with the Hovers would give them a decisive edge.
If Hover Group chose to collaborate with just one of them, it woullisrupt the long–standing balance of wealth between the Felands and the Fords.
Jared didn’t want to lose–nor could he afford to lose.
Luther was the first to speak. “Mr. Hover, since you returned to Jegion City, I haven’t had the chance to meet with you. I was having dinner here tonight when I heard that you were here too, so I thought I’d take the liberty of greeting you.”
“There’s no doubt that you’re a busy man, Mr. Hover. I visited Hover Group previously but wasn’t able to see you,” Jared said. Ever wary of Luther, he added, “As for the upcoming public bidding for Hover Group’s new project, will you personally oversee it, Mr. Hover?”
The Felands had entered the race late for this new project, so the Fords had an advantage over them. The initial gap in preparation was something that made Luther anxious.
“Since we’re all here today, why don’t we sit down and have a drink together?” Luther suggested.
None of them knew who was with Samuel in the private room, but they figured that anyone significant enough to have secured a personal dinner with him must be extremely important.
Samuel withdrew slightly. “I have had to deal with a lot of family matters since my return, which is why I haven’t been able to respond to your meeting requests.
“As for the project, we’re still ironing out the details. Once that’s done, I’ll personally invite both of you to my office for a formal discussion in a few days.”
