Luther’s feelings for Yvonne hit a nerve with Jared. The silence from her still gnawed at him, and the turmoil inside him only twisted tighter. At this moment, every ugly thought he’d ever had me crawling back to life.
“You’re late, Mr. Ford”
Seizing the moment, Luther sneered, “You couldn’t find Yvonne, could you? She’s gone. What a show tonight! I got a front–row seat to her turning you down flat. Turns out you’re the clown.”
Jared scoffed. “Don’t flatter yourself. Yvvy didn’t pick you either. So what exactly are you bragging about?”
Jared was disappointed. His eyes burned with anger at the provocation.
“Mr. Feland, you clearly don’t understand what Yvvy and I have. She’s not giving you a chance. No one can take my place in her heart.”
“Mr. Ford, you can’t expect to win someone back after ignoring them for so long. You forced Yvonne to return with your overbearing ways, and all you did was push her further–right into my arms. Now, I’ve got the upper hand.”
Neither of them was backing down. Their egos were locked in a head–on collision.
Even if Luther hadn’t made any real progress with Yvonne, it didn’t stop him from provoking and misleading Jared at every

Jared didn’t want to
But he couldn’t find Yvonne tonight. She’d blocked his number, and he couldn’t even get a message through.
Had he really pushed her toward Luther?
Even so, Luther was no match for him. Jared was convinced he hadn’t lost. After all, he had years of childhood memories and history on his side.
After leaving the charity gala, Yvonne was picked up by Isabel in a Bange Rover
“Yvvy, get in before you catch a cold.”
While Jared and Lather were too busy measuring egos, Yvonne had chosen neither of them.
Isabel didn’t speak until they were a few blocks away. “I heard you fell in the pool. I almost brought a few of the college athletes I was drinking with to back you up, but my car didn’t have enough seats”
“I
Yvonne chuckled at her words. She leaned her head against Isabel’s shoulder and pouted. “I dirtied the dress you got me.”
“That’s nothing. Dry cleaning will fix it.” Isabel comforted her.
My phone got soaked too. I’m so sad.” Yvonne got right to the point
Isabel gave her a look. “So you’ve been moping this whole time because of your phone? Fine. If it makes you feel better, I’ll buy
you a new one.
Yvonne was already fighting a grin. “Thanks, my rich savior.
It seemed like a little whining really did go a long way.

Since Jared had been drinking, Shirley was the one behind the wheel on their way back.
Jared’s emotions were turbulent. With his face shrouded in the darkness,
didn’t even want to speak.
“After they pulled up, Shirley followed Jared out of the car. She’d secretly memorized his door code.
“Jared, is there anything else you want me to do?”
On nights like this, where sparks could easily turn into a blaze, Shey wanted to stay by his side and comfort himn.
Jared stood in the empty house. “Go home, Shirley.”
He wasn’t going to let her stay the night. The only woman who belonged here was Yvonne.
In the bathroom, Jared stood under the icy stream of the shower. Yvonne’s image lingered in his mind. There was no suppressing the heat inside him. It constantly raged without respite.
“‘Yvvy, you’re going to come back to me. You’ll love me… for the rest of your li
