Chapter 87
Jared’s calm and methodical approach suddenly shifted into a rush of urgency.
He had to figure out what Yvonne truly wanted. Clearly, his methods weren’t working, which was why he couldn’t reach her
heart.
The next day, a visitor arrived at Ford Corporation.
When Jared saw Dylan, his instincts immediately told him this had something to do with Yvonne.
“Mr. Ford! It’s truly an honor to meet you,” Dylan said respectfully a stark contrast to the arrogance he’d shown in front of Yvonne before.
Recently, Dylan had been trying to sell his company, but the offers he’d gotten were far below what it was worth. If he sold it now, he’d take a huge loss.
Desperate, he thought of partnering with Ford Corporation to increase the company’s value before selling it.
He presented his jewelry investment project, which made his intentions obvious.
Jared let out a sneer. “If you think you can hide the truth of your company from us, then I’d say you have a poor sense of judgment. If this is your idea of an investment, I’d rather not bother. Please leave.”
Seeing his chance slip away, Dylan quickly responded, “This mess is all Yvonne’s fault.”
The mention of her name made Jared freeze in his tracks.
Of course, Dylan had caught wind of the rumors that Jared was still hung up on Yvonne. He figured that was his only chance. He downplayed the situation, mentioning only that Yvonne wanted to buy Andrew’s posthumous work.
Jared’s thoughts cleared in an instant.
Yvonne had always been sentimental. Of course, it was Andrew’s posthumous work she was after.
“Mr. Dylan, you’re welcome to come back and talk once you’ve secured Mr. Andrew’s posthumous work. Show some sincerity next time,” Jared said.
“Of course.” Dylan was eager to seize the last chance for a comeback.
A while later, Yvonne received some promising news from the secondhand jewelry trade center that she was genuinely delighted about.
“The secondhand jewelry trade center informed me that the auction at Tidalus tomorrow is going to feature my dad’s posthumous work. This is a rare opportunity. I can’t let it slip by again. Isabel, I’m driving there directly and will stay at the auction the whole time.”
Before heading out of town, Yvonne took her car in for a service.
When she got it back, she didn’t realize a tracking device had been secretly installed in her car’s system.
She knew the auction would involve bidding, but her cash flow was tight. So, she reached out to her real estate agent,
“The market’s been doing well lately. Please list my apartment for sale. I need to liquidate quickly, so the price is negotiable.”
Meanwhile, Jared received two pieces of news.
The first piece of news was that Andrew’s posthumous work would be auctioned at Tidalus. The second was that Yvonne was selling her apartment.
“Yvvy wants to buy the posthumous work, but the price might get pushed up during the bidding. She doesn’t have enough money. This important gift for her needs to come from me. If I give it to her, she’ll be moved and come back to me.”

Jared was extremely confident this time.

The next day, Yvonne packed up and got ready to leave.
Isabel checked the weather forecast on her phone, then glanced at the foggy morning sky. “Yvvy, the weather’s not looking too good. It says there’s heavy rain, so be careful on the highway.”
“I’ll be careful. Don’t worry.” Yvonne reassured her.
After Yvonne left, she had no idea that her car’s location was being tracked and sent to Jared’s phone. He pulled out of his driveway and followed her closely.
As soon as Yvonne passed the toll booth on the highway, she noticed the rain starting to get heavier. The highway wasn’t closed. She slowed down, continuing her two–hour drive toward Tidalus.
The highway from Jeriton City to Tidalus wound around the mountains. After the rain, the fog had thickened even more.

Yvonne suddenly realized that the cars that had been ahead of her were now nowhere to be seen. The road ahead was empty, making her feel a wave of unease.
Then, she got a highway alert warning about heavy rain and the risk of landslides.
Yyonne felt a knot of worry tighten in her chest. She checked the navigation and saw that there was a self–serve gas station ahead, and it was the only one within the next 30 miles.
“This weather is really dangerous. I should stop at the gas station and switch to the county road. It’ll probably be safer that way.”
