Chapter 89
Yvonne’s eyes widened in horror.
The gas station was situated in a low–lying area. She could still see the forest ahead, blocked by trees, but once the mudslide came crashing down, this place could be swallowed up in an instant
The rain hadn’t let up, and the danger would persist for a long while.
At that moment, Yvonne forced herself to stay calm.
She smashed her car window and grabbed her important documents. Even if things went south, she didn’t want to vanish from this world without a trace.
With her umbrella in hand, she sprinted out into the rain. The sense of impending disaster hung heavy in her heart.
When she reached a higher spot by the roadside, she saw that the area below the gas station sloped down. She couldn’t continue walking here.
Realizing this, she quickly turned and ran toward Jeriton City.
“Why isn’t there a single car?”
The torrential rain drowned out her voice.
Being alone in this desolate place filled Yvonne with a level of fear and hopelessness she’d never known before.
As she ran, she kept glancing over her shoulder. She seemed to hear the ominous sounds of something collapsing behind her, drawing closer with each passing second.
Yvonne was losing her mind. She kept running, praying someone would show up and save her.
Then, out of nowhere, headlights flashed in the downpour, making Yvonne’s eyes widen in surprise.
She quickly moved to the side of the road, waving her pink umbrella frantically to signal the driver to stop.
To her relief, the car slowed down as it approached her.
Surprised to spot a lifeline, Yvonne rushed over and shouted, “Excuse me! Can you take me out of here? My
The car door swung open, and a man quickly appeared in front of her.
Yvonne widened her eyes in disbelief.
“M–Mr. Hover?”
Samuel, seeing her drenched and disheveled, didn’t hesitate. He grabbed her and helped her into the car.
“The highway’s closed. There aren’t any cars on this stretch. I saw signs of a mudslide nearby on my way here. We need to leave
now.”
The road ahead was impassable, so Samuel had no choice but to drive against traffic to head back toward higher ground.
Inside the warm car, Yvonne’s body continued to shake.
“W–Why are you here?” she asked.
“When we were on the phone, I heard you cry for help. I tried calling again, but you didn’t pick up. I was worried something had happened. I heard you were at a gas station, so I came straight here”
Samuel had clearly rushed here from work. He was wearing a suit and driving his own car.
Yvonne’s mind went blank. “Did I cry for help?”

When Jared had suddenly appeared, she’d been so startled that she didn’t even remember.
Samuel gave her a long look. “You did, so I came.”
He’d heard her calling out Jared’s name and had feared something was wrong. That was why he’d acted without thinking.
Yvonne didn’t doubt his words. She’d clearly been through an immense amount of shock.
“Thank you for coming. You’re the only one who showed up.”
“Don’t worry. It’s okay now.” Samuel reassured her.
As he drove, he kept his eyes on the road, staying alert to his surroundings, especially as they approached a tunnel.
The rain had slowed, but the accumulated rainfall had already begun to push the nearby mountain slope down toward the road. Suddenly, Samuel slammed on the brakes.
Yvonne, startled by the abrupt stop, looked up and saw a massive chunk of wet earth sliding down the mountain.
A tree was torn from the ground, crashing down toward the car.
If Samuel hadn’t stopped in time, they would’ve been buried, and both of them would likely have been injured.
“The road ahead is blocked. If we stay in the car, we’ll suffocate. The rain should stop soon, but the mudslides will keep coming. We need to get out and head for higher ground to wait for help.”
